Services and Qualifications
Dr. Tsoi Nam Chan comes from a distinguished lineage of physicians who have practiced Traditional Chinese Medicine for generations in China. Over 150 years ago the family established a Chinese herbal medicine shop and acupuncture clinic in San Francisco, continuing a legacy of healing that spans centuries. In Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, the family’s ancestral watchtower and courtyard residence still stand today as enduring symbols of their medical heritage and dedication to the healing arts. In the 1970s, Dr. Chan established his practice in New York City, continuing his family’s legacy in bringing healing to those who need it.
In 1981, Dr. Chan pursued advanced clinical research at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where he trained under and collaborated with the internationally renowned acupuncture Grandmaster Shi Xuemin. During this formative period, Dr. Chan contributed to pioneering research in XNKQ, publishing scholarly work and helping introduce acupuncture methodologies to practitioners in the United States. XNKQ therapy is a globally recognized, specialized acupuncture protocol designed specifically for stroke rehabilitation and neurological disorders. Mechanistically, it focuses on restoring consciousness, improving cerebral blood flow, and promoting neuroplasticity by stimulating specific acupoints to activate the central nervous system. His work was part of the broader movement that integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine with neurological and biomedical understanding, advancing the treatment of stroke recovery, neurological disorders, and chronic pain.
Dr. Chan’s clinical and research background also reflects the influence of leading innovators in scalp acupuncture, including the work associated with Dr. Jiao Shunfa and other pioneers who helped expand the international study and application of neuro-acupuncture techniques. Dr. Chan and Dr. Jiao Shunfa have published many books on acupuncture together. Through decades of practice in the United States, Dr. Chan has combined traditional Chinese healing principles with modern therapeutic approaches, becoming recognized for his expertise in acupuncture, herbal medicine, and holistic wellness.
Today, Dr. Chan and his family continue to preserve and practice their ancestral traditions of Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, and essential oil therapies, safeguarding generations of medical knowledge and honoring the enduring legacy of their forebears.
