Your first acupuncture visit...
Before Your Appointment
Please arrive early on the day of your appointment. Each patient is allotted a specific amount of time for their visit, and arriving on time ensures you receive the full benefit of your treatment.
Your first visit will last approximately 1.5 hours. During this time:
A thorough medical history will be taken.
You and your practitioner will discuss your treatment goals.
A personalized treatment plan will be developed.
You will receive treatment using one or more modalities appropriate for your condition.
Each follow-up visit will last about 1 hour.
Please complete your online patient profile before your appointment for quicker service. Additional consent forms will need to be signed in person.
Things to Consider on the Day of Your Appointment
Do not brush your tongue — it will be used as part of your diagnosis.
Eat something before your appointment.
Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.
Arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork (for your first visit).
Plan to relax and drink plenty of water after your treatment.
What to Expect After Your Treatment
After an acupuncture session, you may feel deeply relaxed or in a mellow state often referred to as “acu-land” or “acu-zone.” This is completely normal — take it easy for the rest of the day.
You may also notice mild soreness or achiness around the acupuncture sites; this is normal and should fade within a day or two.
Acupuncture has a cumulative effect. The number of treatments needed depends on your constitution, the severity of your condition, and how long you have had it.
Some patients notice improvement after the first session.
Others may see changes after a few treatments.
Most conditions require a course of 6–10 treatments for optimal results.
Always share any concerns with your practitioner — they are here to help and work with you toward your healing goals.
